WTD2024 Sarawak aims to bring tourism stakeholders in Sarawak together, including governments, practitioners, academics, associations, and communities, to recognize and celebrate our milestones and achievements in the past year. It also serves as our continuous commitment to responsible tourism which is in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and our collective resolve to develop tourism in a sustainable manner with UNWTO and global citizens in the tourism and hospitality industry. Sarawak Research Society (SRS) in partnership with Responsible Borneo (REBORN) will organize the World Tourism Day 2024 (WTD2024) Sarawak in Sibu, Sarawak with the theme Tourism and Peace. It will be hosted by Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak.
Agenda
ORIGIN OF WTD
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) designated the Day in September 1979, with the commemoration to commence in 1980. This date commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on 27 September 1970.

World Tourism Day is commemorated annually on 27 September to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value. Tourism can contribute to the SDGs: through quality tourism training, which invests in education and skills; by investing in sustainable infrastructure and accelerating green transformation, including opportunities to decarbonize the sector and promote climate-resilient infrastructure; and through investing in innovation technology, and entrepreneurship that can upskill tourism’s workforce.
